The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness

Book one: Wolf Brother

Wolf Brother is about a twelve year old boy named Torak living in ancient times. Back then, humans lived off the land, they hunted, tracked, made weapons, fished, and slept on the forest floor. Although Torak would seem like their average boy, he is more than beyond anything they would have expected. When he was a child, he was placed in the care of wolves for 6 months. During that time, he learned to communicate with them, and learn their way of life. Because of that, Torak has the special gift to speak to wolves. Unfortunately, this is not the only issue. A great beast called The Bear is roaming free in the forest, happily creating mayhem, murder, and chaos between the clans. The Bear killed Torak's father, so now he wanted revenge. On his way, he meets his two life long soon to be friends. Wolf and Renn, Together they journey to the mountain of death and defeat the bear one and for all.

Book two: Spirit Walker

Ok so usually, my summaries aren't that long, but this one requires a lot of explaining. In other words, this one should be a WHOLE lot shorter. So anyway, Spirit walker is about a horrible sickness coming over the forest and sea clans, and to Torak, Renn, and Wolf set off to find the cure. Well the seal mage and the four set off on a journey to find a special leaf to help save the clans, but unfortunately, the mage isn't every social, so he kinda wanted to kill everyone, and he started the whole thingy. He tried to kill Torak, Renn saved his life, Wolf had something to do with it, uh you know the whole save the world or die thing, right?

Book Three: Soul Eater

Book three, Soul Eater, is about how Torak and the gang go out to destroy the whole "destroy the world" group up in like antarctica, and they end up getting wolf captured and trapped inside their evil lair. Brilliant. So they escape, and end up killing one Soul Eater, the only price is that Torak now has their death symbol etched into his back forever, and for that, he is made outcast.

Book four: Outcast

Outcast is how, because of his scar, Torak is outcasted among the clans. Which means that is he is spotted, he is killed, and he is forbidden to speak or see anyone. Ouch. Anyway, so its about how he is going crazy, and his old pal Wolf saves him. And in the end, a Soul Eater is behind it all, and once again, she dies. YAY!

Book five: Oath Breaker

Other breaker is the final story where Torak attempts to rid the forest of the world's last and worst Soul Eater. Does he succeed? Well yeah, probably. HUZZAH!! LONG SUMMARY IS OVER!!!

Review:

Story:

Personally, I like the story, and I think it's very creative. I enjoy it very much, and it certainly got me interested in nature. I think the author has amazing talent to add unsuspected twists, and I tend to re-read these books quite often.

Writing/morals:

I love the writing, it's very descriptive, but not disruptively so, and it certainly got me interested from the start in what i was reading. It has great morals for the younger age, yet implies more of a complicated plot to the older ages. The Characters go through many real life experiences, and they are certainly easy to relate to.I think the Author is certainly very talented, creative, and artistic.

Reading level difficulty:

Ok so yeah, these books are really easy to read, not that long, and you can read them really quick. But no, it does not interfere with the story, and they are still a great joy to read, and I often find myself rereading them just because I love them. The easily readable print just widens the age range, and I love them all the same.

Overall:

Overall, I love these books and I would recommend them to anyone who asked.

These books are not only fantastic to read and skillfully written (the author is a master of keeping your attention, and the writing is comfortably fast-paced), they quite accurately portray Mesolithic stone-age life in Europe, complete with interesting, brief, and concise descriptions of the different details that make the world come alive-- e.g. how Renn's arrows are fletched with owl feathers for silent flight; how you can tell if someone's ax is really theirs, or if it's stolen; how salmoncakes are flavored with juniper berries; how to keep a smoldering ember in birch-bark, ready to come back to life with tinder and a breath... the list is endless, and the descriptions are never tedious. I know of many people inspired to "live green" as well as reconnect with our ancient forebears. I myself have begun to take up the "lost art" of flintknapping... I loved Nature anyway, but, as I rarely get a chance to really live off in the wilderness, this series filled up an empty hole inside of me, showing me the small and incredible wonders of the wild world.
