Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Madison M. | July 31, 2009 | Comments (5)

Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is about a young boy named harry potter, a young boy who is unknowingly a very talented wizard, with a very interesting past. He would be a normal young wizard, if it wasn't for the strange lightening scar on his forehead that tells the story of his past. When he was a baby, Lord Voldemort sought him out, seekiHarry Potter - Sorcerer's Stoneng his death in order to create the last and final piece of his divided soul. As he sent the unforgivable death curse, Avada Kedavra on the young boy, Harry's life was saved by his mother, Lily Potter. As she blocked the killing curse, part of the spell hit Harry, and Harry being an unusually powerful wizard, somehow rebounded it to where it hit voldemort instead. Being that it was only part of the spell, it did not fully destroy him, ( I know, darn) but only left him as a forgotten villain, left to very slowly gain power until he is strong enough to seek revenge. This book is how Voldemort, finally strong enough to seek revenge, goes out to complete his nasty deed by killing Harry.

The book begins as Harry Potter, an unknown wizard leads an unusually cruel life. Living with his aunt and uncle, he is forced upon child abuse and cruelty. Forced to live a muggle life, he would seem like any other child, until the night of his forgotten birthday, on which the Hogwarts games keeper, and soon to be life long friend, comes to collect him for his first year of school. While on the yearly before-school shopping trip, Harry and the Games keeper Hagrid, make a mysterious stop at Gringots wizard bank. There Hagrid must pick up something for Dubledor. Once prepared, and of course, rather nervous, Harry begins his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. There, he meets his two best friends, Ron and Hermione, one of his many enemies, Draco Malfoy, and many others important in his future. One of which, is the famous Dumbledor, the headmaster of Hogwarts who knows many things about his ultimate foe, Voldemort, and his horrible past. Together, Dumbledor and Harry grow closer as the year progresses, and Harry's skills improve. After dinner one evening, Harry, Hermione, and Ron accidently get lost and find Hagrid's three headed dog, sleeping in what the teachers call, the forbidden room. Wondering if the mysterious package and the strange beast are related, Harry and his friends search for the answer. They find it in, you guessed it, the Forbidden section of the library, a section on Nicholas Flammel and the Sorcerers Stone. They learn that the stone, and whoever it is possessed by, have immortal life. That is when the trio realizes that the dog wasn't just sleeping there, he was hiding something, and I think you know what.

And so begins the journey to retrieve the stone from harms way, as the children have learned that one of the many strange teachers, Professor Quarrel, a man who is faking a mental illness, is also after the stone, but not for it's well being. And so the three set off. Once beyond the three headed dog, many other complicate obstacles await them, for example, a hundred flying keys, of which only one is correct, a life size chess board, and others, the children reach their destination. Too bad they weren't the first ones there. Professor Quarrel had unfortunately beaten them too it. Darn. So the battle begins. After a long lasting magical-duel, Quarrel reveals his darkest secret. Once the turban is removed, all is revealed. So it turns out that on the back on Quarrel's head, is Voldemort!! Voldemort had taken possession over Quarrel in order to retrieve the stone and kill Harry. As are most books, the good guy won, Voldy is temporarily relinquished, and Harry destroyed the stone. YAY!

Overall:

Personally, I loved this book, as I did with all the other Harry Potter series. I love them because they are not just one kind of book they involve romance, action, Mystery and many more. I think the books are complex, yet fascinating, and not too difficult to understand. The characters have depth, meaning, and true feelings, which can be hard to find in literature. The books grab you from the start, and keep you too the point of reading at four AM in the morning. These are some of my favorite books, and people will always remember them.

My opinion on the whole "Twilight VS Harry Potter" controversy:

Ok, I'll be upfront, I HATE IT. It is pointless and stupid. Just because people like both of the books, (not at all supporting Twilight, just saying, yes, some dip-wads like it.no offense.) and they happen to be Vampires and Wizards, we have to fight about which book is better? (Harry Potter, no question)SO NOT NECESSARY! I wish people would just drop it. If you don't like the book, then don't insult the people who do. And yes, I've seen that happen, and IT WAS BAD!!! She said that her brain was going down the toilet, and that she was stupid and had no actual smarts. Anyway, I'm just saying...
